My interviewee’s background: He is American, and his name is Mark. He is not a student now, and works downtown. I met him in front of library.
He works downtown. When a new person was hired, he struck up a conversation with her. He started a conversation with training her to make her know workplace and feel better.
He usually shakes hands when he introduces himself to another person.
He does not use “How do you do?”. Instead, he uses “How are you?” or “How is going?”.
When he is sitting down and someone are coming into a room, he stands up. This happens in case of formal situation.
Anywhere he introduces himself, he begins a conversation with someone he doesn’t know.
If he has a question about something in class, he says “Could you help me understand?” If there is no instructor, he wants to seek name.
g. If I find the common between me and someone, I would start a conversation. For example, when I met a new person in my office, I started a conversation with him.
h. I was in an elevator in my building. “Hi. I’m Byungchul. Are you a new student? Nice to meet you.”
